the short story

Hurshman, Hudson, & Van Dyke have come together to bring you The Hearth. You'll find Caleb hosting conversations around the fire pit, you'll find Corbin brewing the best tea you've ever had, and you'll find Alena doing “all the things."

The three of us have “worked for God" full time for a few years, first separately, and then together, as the Lord brought us together to do life and ministry side by side.

The Lord started tugging on Corbin & Caleb's hearts many years ago, that there must be a place in downtown Hollister where the community could connect, slow down, and find their spiritual family. They both fondly and passionately speak about how transformative and healing late-night conversations were years ago on Downing Street. It was a special place for all the locals.

When we decided to recreate the Farmer's Market in downtown Hollister in summer 2025, we wondered if it was the precursor to building The Hearth. When the guys found out the space at 111 St. James was for rent, Corbin and Caleb immediately knew it was time. God intervened and quickly opened the doors for us to create this space for Him and for you.

The Hearth isn't just about good food & tea, it's “the place to be." It feels different, and we hope you'll come check it out.

With warm hospitality, The Hearth aims to be a haven where the local community can come to slow down and find their spiritual family. Its purpose is to be the place where people gather and thrive. It provides an atmosphere that offers rest, community, growth, spiritual development, and belonging. Our guests are invited to engage in meaningful conversations over great food and beverages, read, study or work in a home away from home, and take part in supporting other small businesses and ministries that align with our true calling: to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, & mind and love our neighbors as ourselves.

Our Purpose

We believe this is God's heart for our community, and His vision for Hollister. We see ourselves as stewarding His vision. The Hearth is not really ours, it's His. We work for Him. With this perspective, we pray and hope the whole community will contribute and donate and take ownership to care for what He's giving to us. We have a lot of things we need to bring His vision to life. If you are able to donate or contribute out of your abundance, please do. We have a long list of things we will need before we open: some requiring time and labor and some items like old furniture, tea cups, and more. If you can't give donations or your time and labor, please stop by the farmer's market and support the cause by buying vegetables from us (till the end of September).

You can see the list of things we need HERE. Please keep checking in, as the list will be updated as people give and as needs arise.
